Prior Learning Assessment
Receive College Credits for the Life You’ve Lived
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) at Navarro College offers you the opportunity to take some of the skills you’ve acquired throughout your life and match those up against course content offered at the College. We understand that as a working student, you have had many learning experiences that occurred outside the traditional classroom. Through our PLA, you may get up to 25% of college credit hours towards your certificate or degree for what you know at college-level.
How Credit is Determined
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is defined as a process for assessing learning gained outside of a traditional academic environment. This could be learning acquired through military service, credit by examination, or portfolio assessment. PLA is a means of evaluating what a student already knows at the college-level derived from these experiences for college credit, certification, or advanced standing toward further education or training.
